Day 515: a bobsledder

30.05.15: yeah, like I could draw anyone other than our vey own, little daredevil (the teeth and the stripy suit give him away)!! Plus he is speeding way to fast towards the big one!!

Day 514: tie-dye

29.05.15: yeah, Junior is right; neither the Boss nor myself know what we're doing (or saying) with this one. Oh well, GROOVY!!

Day 513: an amoeba

28.05.15: oh, the hidden meaning in this is microscopical so best of luck finding it... I couldn't...

Thursday, May 28, 2015

Day 512: a feathered hat

27.05.15: there is only one person who can carry off a feathered hat, and that is a musketeer!! They do not come more elegant or brave, or feathered...

Wednesday, May 27, 2015

Day 511: a seashell

26.05.15: just so you know, collecting seashells is something mermaids do, okay?!?! And for the record, the Boss is planing on being a mermaid when she grows up!!

Day 510: a broken toy

25.05.15: I blame all the Memorial Day posts on FB, but here you have my broken toy, or teddy as it were. Hope you like it.

Day 509: a pearl

24.05.15: I could have gone with Pearl LeBlanc the infamous and equally deadly lounge-singer who falls in love with Jon in Jon Pay and Love in a Speakeasy (working title). Or the Lost Pearl of Teżawru that Jon hunts for in Jon Pay and the Lost Pearl of Teżawru (working title). Or even a portrait of Regina Dessay Patti the famous (and rather large) opera singer and her even more famous (and larger) pearl necklace who Jon has to protect in Jon Pay: Pearls of a Opera Singer (working title). But nooooo. What did I go with?!? The over-aggressive, over-protective, under-thought-out and never to be seen again Murray the Mussel & his pearl...

Day 508: a jumper

23.05.15: get it?!? Get it???!!? She's a jumper (as in she is jumping up and down, not jumping off a building...) wearing a jumper!!! Get it?!?!? No? Okey, going to bed...

Day 507: a beaker

22.05.15: another one of the "what else could I draw?" scenarios. My second attempt at a Muppet and again pure fun. It's weird, on days like today I kind of wonder what I'm gonna do when I've reached 642... Hopefully I'll finally be able to put this kind of commitment in to finishing "Jon Pay: Prizefighters & Knickerbockers" once and for all... Maybe rename the blog a Panel a Day...  What you think?

Day 506: an owl

21.05.15: I will admit to being partial to the book, mostly because I liked the voice I gave the characters when I read it to the Boss and as a result (and secondly) I have not seen the full movie version. That being said, the owl character-design in the movie is so much cooler and as a result, today's sketch  is based on the movie version.

For those of you who have NO idea what I am talking about, look up, Google or even better, buy a copy of The Gruffalo. It is so worth it, no matter how old you are!!

Day 505: a deserted island

20.05.15: need some sleep tonight so here is a deserted island.

Day 504: a troll

19.05.15: another tribute piece. This time  the Norwegian duck-man himself, Arild Midthun. Back in the late 80s Arild and Terje Nordberg created a Norwegian comic called TROLL. It deserved more than the two stories it got. Anyway here are the two...or four main characters. All trolls of course.

Day 503: a circus

18.05.15: this is what we in our family refer to as a travelling circus. The sad thing is, I have actually not changed anything, this is what we actually look like when we are out and about. Don't believe me, look for us, or even better, listen for us at MP any given rainy Saturday and/or Sunday... You'll hear us coming...

Day 502: a waterfall

17.05.15: Norwegian Independence Day (or as my American friends say Norway Day). It's the day that always sparks my national pride. With this in mind, the idea which presented itself there and on the page was that of the Norwegian mystical character, Huldra, an almost unnaturally beautiful woman that roams Norwegian woods in the nude, in hopes to lure men down in to the caves of the trolls and the underworld. The only telltale that she is not what she appears, is a long cows tail. A long time ago, I wrote some tails inspired by such legends and tales. In one of them, a half Huldra finds her troll-kin by the three-tier waterfall and that waterfall with a dancing Huldra in front of it, is what I have attempted to draw. Phew, got there in the end.... Hope you like it.

Gratulere med dagen og hurra for syttende mai!!

Day 501: a dandy

16.05.15: a dandy way to start the next 100...

Both Ray Fechs and Cobb City Most Wanted are back. First full design of Ray. It is strange how I think of one character as Fancy Pants but the same one does not qualify as a dandy...

And if you want see more Jon Pay drawings, comic book pages, pin-ups and news, check out and like www.facebook.com/JonPayPI

Day 500: crutches

15.05.15: don't know if it's because of the 500 sketches or the fact that I had to watch the scoundrel by my self all day, but this is how I currently feel... (Joking aside, he was not that bad to look after, but how my wife looks after the two of them by herself, I have NO idea. I have so much respect for you, honey!!)

And there you have it, sketch 500. I these hundred have kind of happened in a blur but I am closer to the 642. My mum pointed out today that when I reach the end, I will go into withdrawal from not drawing a sketch a night. I can see that happening...

Anyway, I will again list my top five sketched from the last 100. I'd love to hear your picks...

Day 409, a squid. I am just really happy with how it turned out and i find it funny.
Day 417, a cabbage patch. I got to draw P. P. Ding, Monster Fighting Kid!!! How cool is that?!?
Day 480, a huge gold frame. It just makes me giggle.
Day 483, a jellyfish... I don't really know why...I don't like jellyfish, I know that much... Still there's something about this one.
Day 491, a partner in crime. It's my kids. I like the idea and I am happy with how it came out!

There were several of the Jon Pay one that o was really happy with, but these 5 were still the ones that stick out for me. And again, I would love to hear which stuck out for you. It doesn't have to be top five. I'd settle for your favorite.

Anyway, thank you to everyone who has stuck with me and who keeps encouraging me. Without you I would have given up a long time ago! Thank you and please stick around for the next hundred!!

Day 499: a scoundrel

14.05.15: here is the scoundrel who kept me from drawing the scoundrel I actually wanted to draw, dressed up as the scoundrel I wanted to draw! (Did you follow that?!?! Not sure I did...) Name that scoundrel who is the pure definition of a scoundrel, at least according to one princess....

(And no, he isn't standing yet. That's is why I have him propped up with a solid piece of wood. We woodn't want him falling over  now, wood we?!?)

Day 498: a container ship

13.05.15: "oh no, a monster has now just walked out of the ocean!!!" You want to find out what I am talking about, go to docmonster.com and click on Monster Fighting Kid P. P. Ding. Trust me, it's worth it.

Day 497: a belt buckle

12.05.15: people always ask me or suggest that I write and draw newspaper strips or one panel jokes. This belt buckle "joke" (along with the pickle "joke") shows why I should not write and draw newspaper strips or one panel jokes... Anyway, drawing Jon Pay and Gus MacDugal as cowboys, just plain fun!!

Day 496: vitamins

11.05.15: we see a return of our very intelligent doctor from day 119 and her new assistant.

     (Yeah, I had nothing here...)

Day 495: a doily

10.05.15: Jon does not only have egg on his face, he has egg, flour, sugar, baking powder, milk and frosting... But at least it came on a doily...

Day 494: a quilt

09.05.15: kind of had some idea for this, just needed to add bunch of other details, old wooden shack, empty gun, hat with one or more bullet-holes, dirty-battle worn suit, icicles everywhere including the stove, more details on the quilt and bag full of money and a ledger. Fell a little short... Maybe next time...

Day 493: platform shoes

08.05.15: unfortunately last nights prediction came true so this is all I came up... And I never liked platform shoes anyway...

Friday, May 8, 2015

Day 492: the man in the moon

07.05.15: Yep, me complaining of lack of sleep again. The blame lays somewhere between the toothless wonder and my obsession with this blog. Well, on that note, good night!

Thursday, May 7, 2015

Day 491: a partner in crime

06.05.15: I may have taken this "a partner in crime" a bit to far but the daresm duo of ours will be causing us trouble for years and years to come. Plus I really liked this idea and the end sketch!

Day 490: lucky charms

05.05.15:  okey, am I the only one who's now in the mood for something magically delicious?!?!

Tuesday, May 5, 2015

Day 489: a garden

04.05.15: ...well, sort of... It was an idea that worked in my head but the toothless wonder kept waking up and I lost track of where I was heading with it. Anyway, it was inspired by a garden and the victim of my tiny story is also a garden... And you know there's story in there somewhere... Probably behind the weeds...

And for those keeping track, we are up to officially eight teeth. We are working on 9-10-11-12 at the very least...

Day 488: a safety pin

03.05.15: the Tiny Adventurer is back and he is scaling to new heights. And if it's unclear, his rope ladder is made up of thread and safety pins. Tell me a safer way to go?

(I was thinking of just drawing a note and tell you to look at day 34, but he used a paper clip that time...)

Day 487: a condiment

02.05.15: true story. The Boss can never have enough mayo.

This one would have been better yesterday. Yesterday was my late grandmothers (Farmors) birthday and I was trying to come up with something to remember her. She had so many fantastic saying and/or phrases. Once when I for the umpteenth time asked for salt without trying the food, she got all the salt in the house, placed it all infront of me and told me to have as much as I wanted ("ta så mycke du vil!!"  It looses something in the translation!) Here's  to a fantastic lady who I miss every day.

Day 486: a hummingbird

01.05.15: Flit, one of my favorite things to  come out of Disneys Pocahontas. Granted it is not my favorite Disney cartoon but there are some truly beautiful parts in it.

Day 485: a toaster

30.04.15: I did it!! I did it!! I drew just the theme, pure and simple! Just a toaster. Granted I drew a 95-years old toaster but a toaster none the less...
