Day 271: a police officer

28.09.14: the friend of yesterday's sailor is also looking to the ship. I do believe this is the same police officer who arrested Magpie on day 71. Also, just like days 146 and 147, and days 87 and 88 (both completely different themes from today, so check them out!), you have to view the two days together to get the full story.

As always, I would love to hear your comments and thoughts on my sketches. And if nothing else, let me know where in the world you are checking in from.

     Have a great week.

Day 270: a drunken sailor

27.09.14: a little lighter tone and a rougher line tonight.

Day 269: Dad

26.09.14: whoever did not see this coming, has not been paying attention in class!

Just like yesterday, the two men who qualify from the definition of Dad; my dad and my father-in-law. As these are two men I respect more than any other men, I do hope I did them both justice. (Dad, sorry about your nose... Just noticed it now...)

Day 268: Mom

25.09.14: yep, I will be in trouble again. I am drawing the three women in my life that meet the definition of "mom": my wife's mother (or my mother-in-law, if you prefer), my daughters mother (the wife) and my mother (although I have never called her "mom"...)

My wife is has ruined it for herself as she claims I never do her justice win she is included. This means everytime I draw her, I am subconscious of this and the prediction comes true. Yet again she is proven correct: I did not do her justice. So that's one down... I wonder how the other two will react and whether or not I'll be sleeping outside tomorrow...

Day 267: feelings

24.09.14: I took this as a perfect opportunity to do a character study of Jon Pay. I seem to recall being told in art school to do one of these every time you create a new character. I don't think I ever do (usually due totime-restraints) but having done this tonight, I would strongly recommend doing if. I just googled "emotions" (after having done feelings) and grabbed a collection of emoticons, the most cartoony I could find, and tried to apply them to JP. I found both the process and the result, both educational and fun. I will be using some of these.

Day 266: a diamond ring

23.09.14: come!! Let the jokes and comments fly!! Give me your best shot!!

Day 265: a milk carton

22.09.14: now, some of you would now be saying that they didn't have milk cartons during the 1930s, but you would be wrong. Milk cartons have been around (according to Wikipedia) since 1905. However, missing persons (or more correctly, missing kids) were not shown on them till the mid seventies. I still think it's a cool idea and have already looked at ways to improve it for future use.

Now I must go as somebody actually does want milk...

Day 264: a rubber duck

21.07.14: the mood rubber duckie, expressing how I feel right now!! Up since 3 am, flown on vacation with two small kids who both were too excited to go to bed... I am spent!! My bed is calling!

Day 263: Elvis

20.09.14: it took a three month old, a three-and-a-half year old, a small comic book project deadline, extremely busy time at work and the first family vacation since the arrival of Junior to result in my first incomplete. It's not a fail, as the sketch is started and I'd like to think you can recognize who it is suppose to be... (at least I can...)

I did better with my Marley and my Bowie, me thinks!!

Now it's only one three am rise left to accomplish and it is vacation time!!!

Day 262: a baseball glove

19.09.14: yes, you are correct, this would be called "hacking it". Crunch time on my story for the Cork Comics Creators Horror anthology comic. Must go draw birds!!

Day 261: a bonnet

18.09.14: I love doing "studies" of other peoples styles and character, and as some of you may notice I do keep coming back to some of the same series/characters. When to days theme was a bonnet one of my first thoughts was Ma Dalton from Lucky Luke (who last made an appearance on day 233). I wonder which other ones I'll try before the book is done... (Lille Sprint/petit Spirou was visited on day 205, Garfield on day 198, Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles on day 185, Usagi Yojimbo (the latest time) on day 184, Asterix on day 169, Sprint/Spirou day 168 and Bone on day 77. Check 'em out and let me know how you think I did. Thanks)

Day 260: a tattoo

17.09.14: sticking with the classics, here is the most classic tattoo. I seriously doubt it meets with the standards of the great Hy Eisman but than again nobody does.

Day 259: a flattop

16.09.14: a little Dick Tracy tribute. Do you believe I have never read a Dick Tracy comic. I really think I should...

Monday, September 15, 2014

Day 258: a sled

15.09.14: yep, this is me pretending to be fosisticated... Did it work?

It is also time again to play "Who can name that movie?" Last time around it was day 244 (and day 220 before that).

     Now back to the birds...

Day 255: a broccoli

12.09.14: another Cobb City Most Wanted entry. It wasn't until I was almost done drawing Stan "the Butcher" Broccoli (be advised, it's pronounced Bracóli, Satn is saying it with an accent...) that I noticed the resemblance to a certain Simpson character. Oh well... Stan is a notorious Vegopath, meaning he has a tendency to attach and butcher vegetables. Good muscleman and scare-factor to bring on a job...

Day 254: a princess crown

11.09.14: never argue with an expert...

(To all my American friends and family; never forget.)

Day 253: a fan

10.09.14: we actually have a collection of paper fans with various degrees of decorations on them...

Day 252: a storm

09.09.14: didn't realize just how fitting both yesterday's and today's sketch is. Will just chuck that down to plain, old fashioned luck...

Hey, if you are checking out my sketches for the first time (or even if you are checking in everyday, if so thank you), I would love to hear what you think, so please leave a comment below. Other than my major stubborn-streak, it is feedback and criticism (hopefully the positive kind) that keeps me going. Thanks for checking in. Have a great week.

Day 251: an apple tree

08.09.14: personally I find this one both a little funny and a little sad. Either way, there you have it, an apple tree!!

Day 250: bowling shoes

07.09.14: and now I feel like bowling...

I must honestly say that the benchmark of 250 snuck up on me. I blame the lack of sleep. I actually enjoy looking back over these sketches because some of them I have actually forgotten that I have drawn...

Anyway, Monday tomorrow. Have a great week, everyone!

Day 249: running shoes

06.09.14: too tired to come up with anything funnier... Just wish it was a little funny... And hopefully, I won't be sued by DB...

Day 247: a ladder

04.09.2014: answer to the question "how many Scottish, private detective assistants does it take to change the lightbulb of a very high-hung lamp?" Is one!!!

(All characters © and ™ C. A. Aabø 2014)

Day 246: A baguette

03.09.14: distant cousins of both the Norwegian trolls and nisses and with a few hereditary ties to the Irish Leprechauns, the French Lutins du Pain are a very curious creature. Like the nisse, they are also famous for their very strange and traditional head-gear. Unlike the troll who turn to stone in sunlight, their hats go rock hard after about a days worth of wearing.  And finally, much like the leprechaun and his gold, don't EVER try to trick a Lutins du Pain out of his baguette...ehm...I mean, hat collection...

No, I am not sick! And no I am not cold, so stop trying to put that white jacket on me!!... I don't care if it's fancy with all the buttons and buckles on the back... You are right, it is quite comfy...what?...I have to stop typing now? ...but I haven't fini———————

Day 245: a bird feeder

02.09.14: okey, you're not suppose to do inside jokes as people may feel left out, but as it less of a inside joke as a bit of a tip of the hat to my new home town with a bonus, I hope you let it slide.

So to my friends and family here in Cork (you know who you all are), here is the Shandon bird feeder.

To the Cork Comic Creators group, thanks for welcoming me in to your merry company. To one member in particular (who shall remain nameless...) you and your damn birds!!

Day 244: Queen Victoria

01.09.14: again I will say name that movie!! And unlike my mystery man from day 220, this Queen Victoria  KIND OF looks like the style and character I am tipping my hat to here! And just top emphasis how bad day 220 paid tribute to a movie, nobody has guessed the movie yet... That stings a little...

Day 243: a bottle cap

31.08.14: I keep coming back to the little adventurer from day 175 and 34.  This was again just the idea that came to me. Might have to write his story someday...
